CFTC to commemorate World Consumer Rights Day

The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) falls on 15th March of every year and is an occasion for celebration and solidarity within the international consumer movement.

This year’s theme for the WCRD is “Healthy Diets”, a theme which originates from the fact that unhealthy diets are linked to health threats.

In Malawi, however, the theme has been localised to “A healthy diet - my right", a theme that provides an opportunity for Malawian consumers to demand protection from substandard food products including counterfeits.

Against this background, the Competition and Fair Trading Commission invites all stakeholders, market regulators, NGOs, retailers and the general public to join the international community in commemorating this year’s World Consumer Rights Day, on Monday, 16th March, 2015.

The main commemoration event will be a panel discussion to be held at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe from 18.30 to 20.30. During the discussion, which will be aired on some radio and TV stations, the audience and listeners will be given an opportunity to give opinions and ask questions regarding unhealthy food products including counterfeits.

Some of the issues that will be tackled during the panel discussion are as follows:
