Malonda (R ) hands over the cheque to Banda ( L) as CFTC Director of Consumer Welfare and Education, Lewis Kulisewa looks on

The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), on Wednesday September 30, donated towards Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mother’s Day Fun Run which will this year take place in Mchinji on October 10 2015.

CFTC Executive Director, Charlotte Wezi Malonda speaking when she handed over the cheque to NPL at the Commission’s offices in Lilongwe said they felt it was important to support the publisher’s corporate social responsibility initiative.

“Most of the people that we target with our CFTC messages are the vulnerable consumers who live in rural areas. We find it important to support this initiative because it directly supports vulnerable mothers in their rural community.

"We are happy to partner with NPL who have been supporting us in disseminating our messages about competition and consumer protection to the public. We would be happy to continue our partnership in working together especially through NPL’s Fuko newspaper, that targets rural areas and is published in two vernacular languages," said Malonda.

Malonda added that she is personally raising more money for the initiative and that she will take on the 20km stretch of the fun run from Kamwendo to Mchinji Boma.

NPL’s Albert Banda receiving the donation said he was excited to work and partner with CFTC.

According to Banda, this year, the initiative will support Mchinji District Hospital. NPL targets to raise about K30 million.
