BREAKING NEWS: Invitation to a Public Hearing

The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) will hold its 38th Meeting on Friday 31st January, 2014 at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.

During the meeting, the Commission will adjudicate over a number of cases, among others, applications for mergers, alleged anti-competitive business practices and alleged unfair trading practises.

In line with Section 11 of the Competition and Fair Trading Act, the CFTC will hold a public hearing on the same day Friday 31st January 2014 between 0900 and 1030 hrs at the same venue. The schedule of cases is as below:

• 9:15-9:30 - REPORT ON ALLEGED MISLEADING CONDUCT BY MALAWI SAVINGS BANK PRESENTED BY CFTC
• 9:30-9:45 - RESPONSE BY MALAWI SAVINGS BANK
• 9:45-10:00 - RESPONSE BY COMMISSIONERS
• 10:00-10:15 - REPORT ON ALLEGED PRICE FIXING BY INSURANCE ASSOCIATION OF MALAWI PRESENTED BY CFTC
• 10:15-10:30 - RESPONSE BY INSURANCE ASSOCIATION OF MALAWI 
• 10:30-10:45 - RESPONSE BY COMMISSIONERS

The Commission is therefore appealing to any person, who in their opinion, will be affected or is likely to be affected by the result of the investigation carried out by the CFTC to make a written request to be heard during the hearing.
