Invitation to a public dialogue on phone rights

Every year, the world commemorates World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) on 15 March. This year, Malawi will join the rest of the world in commemorating the Day under the theme “Fix Our Phone Rights”.

To mark the Day, the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) have organised a Public Dialogue that will be held at the Crossroads Hotel Auditorium on Friday 14 March 2014 from 1830 hrs. The event, which will be broadcast live on Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), will provide a rare opportunity to consumers to engage major fixed / mobile telephone companies directly and highlight issues that restrict full enjoyment of their phone rights.

The topic of discussion at the Debate is: What is the impact of telephone services on economic development and consumer welfare in Malawi? What milestones have been achieved so far and what remains to be achieved?

Some of the key discussants at the event are as follows:

If you have any burning issue about the quality of fixed or mobile phone services, then this is your opportunity to be heard. Members of the general public are invited to come and participate in the dialogue or follow proceedings live on ZBS.
