CFTC Commemorates World AIDS Day in Mangochi

As part of the commemoration of this year’s World AIDS Day, Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) visited Mangochi Orphan Education and Training (MOET) School in Mangochi on 2nd December, 2019. The day was commemorated under the theme “Communities Make a Difference”.

Speaking at the event on behalf of the Acting Executive Director, Senior Analyst Fexter Katungwe advised the pupils that they should play an active role in preventing spread of HIV and AIDS by practising abstinence and disseminating relevant messages to their peers and other members of their communities. The pupils displayed various activities such as music, dance, poetry, comedy and drama discouraging people from engaging in practices that expose them to the risk of contracting HIV and AIDS.

Mr Katungwe also took the same opportunity to sensitize the pupils about competition and consumer protection laws in Malawi. He also urged the pupils to demand their rights as consumers when they experience any anticompetitive and unfair trading practices; and report the same to the Commission when their complaints are not redressed.
