The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), on Friday, exchanged Memorandum of Understanding with their Tanzania counterparts, the Fair Competition Commission (FCC), during a ceremony that was held in Lilongwe.
The CFTC and the FCC signed a cooperation agreement in December 2014 in Dar-es-salaam, a pact aimed at strengthening enforcement of competition and consumer protection laws in Malawi and Tanzania through staff exchange, training and information sharing.

The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) falls on 15th March of every year and is an occasion for celebration and solidarity within the international consumer movement.
This year’s theme for the WCRD is “Healthy Diets”, a theme which originates from the fact that unhealthy diets are linked to health threats.
In Malawi, however, the theme has been localised to “A healthy diet - my right", a theme that provides an opportunity for Malawian consumers to demand protection from substandard food products including counterfeits.
The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), a statutory body, with the mandate to promote fair competition and safeguard consumer welfare donated food and clothes to victims of the recent floods in Phalombe.
Handing over the items which specifically included 100 bags of maize and five bales of clothes to the flood victims at Bwanaisa village in Phalombe on Wednesday 18th February, CFTC Executive Director, Charlotte Wezi Malonda said that the agency was moved by the suffering that people affected by the recent floods were experiencing in the district.
