ICC Launches Anti-trust Compliance toolkit for the private sector

This global Toolkit has been produced by the ICC Task Force on Antitrust Compliance and Advocacy following suggestions by the OFT, DG COMP and other antitrust agencies. Consultancy Opportunity - Market study for the Transport Sector in Malawi

As part of its mandate of monitoring the functioning of markets, the CFTC commissioned a study to assess the state of competition in the transport sector. The objectives of the study is to

 

  1.  Assess the market structure of the transport industry
  2. Identify how the conduct of key players in the industry (including government) affect competition
  3. Identify barriers to entry existing in the industry
  4. Assess effects of existing regulations on competition in the industry; and
  5. Make recommendations for enhancing competition in the transport sector.

World Bank Recognises CFTC's Advocacy Role

The Competition Policy Team of the World Bank Group and co-chairs of the International Competition Network (ICN) Advocacy Working Group has recognised the role that Malawi's Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has played in promoting procompetitive reforms that foster growth and reduce inequality.

CFTC, Tanzania FCC exchange MoU

Minister of Industry and Trade, Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha(R)  and FCC Chairperson Professor Samuel Wangwe(L) and exchanging MoU Documents.

The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), on Friday, exchanged Memorandum of Understanding with their Tanzania counterparts, the Fair Competition Commission (FCC), during a ceremony that was held in Lilongwe.

The CFTC and the FCC signed a cooperation agreement in December 2014 in Dar-es-salaam, a pact aimed at strengthening enforcement of competition and consumer protection laws in Malawi and Tanzania through staff exchange, training and information sharing.

CFTC Logo Design Contest

The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) will soon launch its Strategic Plan for the period 2015-2020.

To coincide with the launch, the CFTC intends to come up with a unique and fresh new logo which truly reflects the mandate and corporate image of the Commission. The CFTC is therefore pleased to announce a Logo Design Contest.

CFTC to commemorate World Consumer Rights Day

The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) falls on 15th March of every year and is an occasion for celebration and solidarity within the international consumer movement.

This year’s theme for the WCRD is “Healthy Diets”, a theme which originates from the fact that unhealthy diets are linked to health threats.

 

In Malawi, however, the theme has been localised to “A healthy diet - my right", a theme that provides an opportunity for Malawian consumers to demand protection from substandard food products including counterfeits.

CFTC donates to Phalombe flood victims

The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), a statutory body, with the mandate to promote fair competition and safeguard consumer welfare donated food and clothes to victims of the recent floods in Phalombe.

Handing over the items which specifically included 100 bags of maize and five bales of clothes to the flood victims at Bwanaisa village in Phalombe on Wednesday 18th February, CFTC Executive Director, Charlotte Wezi Malonda said that the agency was moved by the suffering that people affected by the recent floods were experiencing in the district.
