The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), a statutory body, with the mandate to promote fair competition and safeguard consumer welfare donated food and clothes to victims of the recent floods in Phalombe.
Handing over the items which specifically included 100 bags of maize and five bales of clothes to the flood victims at Bwanaisa village in Phalombe on Wednesday 18th February, CFTC Executive Director, Charlotte Wezi Malonda said that the agency was moved by the suffering that people affected by the recent floods were experiencing in the district.
“We heard through the news that some parts of Phalombe district had been affected by floods. As an organization, we saw it wise to put together something to donate to the flood victims,” said Malonda.
Specifically, each family received a bag of maize and some clothes.
In January this year, due to incessant rains that resulted into flash floods, about 200 people were killed, property destroyed and thousands were displaced in 15 districts including Phalombe, Mwanza, Chikwawa and Nsanje.
