Participants to the Induction Workshop of CFTC Commissioners

The government has asked the newly appointed Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioners to champion the recently approved competition and consumer protection reforms.

Speaking during the opening of an induction workshop for the Commissioners in Mangochi on Thursday October 10 2015, Ministry of Industry and Trade Principal Secretary, Charles Kambauwa said their appointment comes at a time when the government is implementing reforms to improve delivery of public service.

“Your main responsibility will, therefore, be to champion implementation of the reforms that the government has approved for the Commission. According to the work programme for implementation of the reforms, the Commission is expected to provide monthly update on implementation of the approved reforms. Looking at the mix of expertise and experience among you, I have no doubt that you will deliver on these tasks,” said Kambauwa.

The reforms which were approved in September this year include amending the legal framework governing competition and fair trading to make it easy to enforce and less burdensome for the private sector to comply. The reforms also include creating synergies and complementarity between the competition and fair trading policy and law and sectoral regulatory regimes.

The Commission also includes Mr. Daniel Dunga, Mr. Madalitso Mmeta and  Mr. Kayisi M’bwana Sadala.
