Invitation to Business Clinics on Competition and Fair Trading Law
One of the functions of the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) is to provide persons engaged in business with information regarding their rights and obligations under the Competition and Fair Trading Act and Consumer Protection Act.
In line with this, the CFTC has organised a series of Business Clinics in all the major trading districts in Malawi targeting private sector enterprises, trade associations, statutory regulatory agencies and civil society. During the Business Clinics, officials from the CFTC will sensitise stakeholders in specific sectors of the economy on their rights and obligations.
Some of the topics to be covered during the Business Clinics include;
- Merger Control: How companies should process applications for authorisation of mergers and acquisitions
- Notice of Investigations: How companies should deal with Notices of Investigation issued by the CFTC
- Consumer Protection: What constitutes unfair trading? Case studies on misleading conduct, misleading advertising, unconscionable conduct, supply of defective and counterfeit products?
This will be an opportunity for participants to the Business Clinics to ask any questions they may have pertaining to the work of the CFTC generally and specifically relating to competition and consumer issues affecting the operations of their sector. The Commission will also take the participants through the process of filing an application, information required, how the assessment is undertaken, engaging the Commission in a negotiated settlement, how to take your company through a compliance program
In this regard, the CFTC would like to invite the business community, trade associations, statutory regulators and civil society groups to Business Clinics to be held at the following venues as follows:
