Fair Competition Commission(FCC) of Tanzania to visit Malawi on a Study Tour

The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), a government agency with a mandate of regulating, monitoring, controlling and preventing acts or behaviour which are likely to adversely affect competition and consumer welfare in Malawi, will from 12th to 18th April host a delegation from the Fair Competition Commission (FCC) of Tanzania which will be on a study tour in Malawi.

The FCC is a Tanzania Government regulatory agency established to promote and protect fair competition and consumer welfare.

The delegation, which will include Commissioners of the FCC, is scheduled to meet a number of local stakeholders that deal with issues of fair competition and consumer protection.

Specifically, the FCC will meet stakeholders in the energy, telecommunications, standards setting, and financial sectors.

Commenting on the visit, CFTC Executive Director, Charlotte Wezi Malonda said the Competition and Fair Trading Commission of Malawi has an excellent working relationship with the Fair Competition Commission of Tanzania, founded on principles of enhancing cross-border enforcement of competition and consumer protection laws.

“I believe that the study tour will, not only help strengthen the existing relationship between the CFTC and FCC, but it will also further enhance the spirit of cooperation in the enforcement of anti-competitive and unfair trading practices with a cross-border dimension. The visit will also boost our efforts in Malawi, because it demonstrates that with relation to competition and consumer protection we are on the right track especially considering that our colleagues in the region have been enforcing for more than 10 years,” said Malonda.
